Creating a Deployer's Workbench project

Deployer's Workbench has its own specific type of project, which provides functions not included in a simple project. When working with Deployer's Workbench, you must use the Deployer's Workbench project type.

Procedure

  1. Click File > New Project.
  2. Select Deployer's Workbench Project from the list of available project types.
  3. Give the project a name and click Finish.
A project with the name you entered appears in the Model Navigator.
  4. Expand the project.
You see that two elements have been pre-populated into the project and that both of these elements have issues associated with them, shown by the error icon . These elements are:
    Server element
This element contains the information required by Deployer's Workbench to connect to the Control Desk server. This includes the host name, port number, and user name. Only one server element can exist per project.
    CI Space element
This element represents the authorized CI classification space needed to properly promote CIs in Control Desk. Eventually this element contains children elements that represent the actual CI classifications on the Control Desk server, as well as the authorized CI classifications and promotion scopes.
Information about these issues appears in the Problems view. Resolve these issues before continuing.
  5. Follow these steps to resolve the server element issue:
    1. Right-click the server element, and select Edit Properties.
    2. Enter the host name of your Control Desk server in the host name field. Each CI Space is associated with a single Control Desk server.
    3. Modify the port number if your Control Desk server does not use the default value.
    4. Enter your Control Desk user name in the user name field.
    5. Click OK.
If the problems with the server element were resolved, the error indicators disappear. A warning indicator may continue to be displayed if Deployer's Workbench was unable to resolve the supplied host name.
  6. Follow these steps to resolve the server element issue:
    1. Right-click the CI space element, and select Edit Properties.
    2. Make sure the Actual CI classification root is valid. If you have upgraded from a previous version, or you have chosen a different name for the root, enter the value that you are using in Control Desk.
    3. Fill in the authorized CI classification root. If this is a brand new Control Desk system without an authorized CI classification tree already created, it can be set to any valid string. The string is converted to upper-case letters and used as the name of the CI Space object.
    4. Set the Authorized CI classification prefix to a desired value, for example, "CI." This string is used as a prefix on all classifications in the authorized CI tree. You can change this value until you export the project to the Control Desk server, after which the prefix value cannot be changed.
    5. Click the Select button next to the Referenced Data Model field, and select the Data Model in the new dialog.
    6. Select what Deployer's Workbench must do to the classification name when copying an Actual CI classification.
    7. If you want the Actual CI classification attributes to be filtered when creating an Authorized CI classification such that only a subset of the Actual CI classification attributes are copied, check the Filter classification attributes on copy box. You can find the list of strings used to filter classification attributes in the Deployer's Workbench preferences.
