The MDM operational server has a set of preconfigured tasks
for managing data quality issues like potential overlay, suspected
duplicate, potential linkage, and review identifier. However, your
implementation might need custom tasks to manage special issues or
processes. Advanced Issue Management, or custom tasks, give you greater
flexibility and control in defining and managing data quality or process-related
issues.
Consider these scenarios:
- A data manager at a large retailer wants all new vendor records
to include a complete business address and go through a finance approval
check. By creating a "missing address" or "missing approval" task,
data stewards can add the appropriate information and resolve the
tasks.
- A data steward at a hospital is responsible for resolving duplicate
records in the EMPI system. In cases where the allergy information
differs between two otherwise identical records, the data steward
wants the system to automatically generate a follow-up issue. An "allergy
verification" task can bring these records to the attention of the
manager.
- A data architect at a credit-card company wants every new piece
of reference data added to the MDM database to go through a clearly
defined authorization process to ensure compliance with the corporate
data governance processes. A series of custom authorization tasks
ensure that appropriate authorization is enforced.
These and similar scenarios can be addressed by the implementation
of custom tasks, allowing for customized issue management.
