Server administration

System administrators can administer the server by using the IBM® Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway Web UI, or by using REST Administration APIs.

Network interface controllers
You need to consider the number of network interface controllers (NICs) that you require when you configure your environment. You should consider factors including the class of traffic, volume of traffic, and the type of environment that you are using when planning the number of NICs that you need.
Configuring the server name
You can configure the server name either by using the IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway Web UI or by using REST Administration APIs.
Configuring log files
You can set the logging level, view the logging level, change the log location, and view log location information by using REST Administration APIs. You can also configure log rotation in a Docker environment by using Docker commands and modifying a sample log rotation file.
Configuring your system for high availability
To recover from outages that might include planned events (such as maintenance and backups) and unplanned events (such as software failures, hardware failures, power failures, and disasters) you can configure an IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway server to serve as a backup.

You can configure the licensed usage and accept the license for IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway by using a single REST Administration API.
Starting, stopping, restarting and viewing the status of the IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway server
You can restart, stop and view the status of the IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway server by using REST Administration APIs or by using the IBM Watson IoT Platform - Message Gateway Web UI.
