Capacity entitlement

A processor value unit (PVU) is a unit of measure used to differentiate licensing of software on distributed processor technologies. You can monitor PVU through IBM® License Metric Tool (ILMT).

PVU is defined by processor vendor, brand, type and model number. IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip (socket). Each software program has a unique price per PVU. Deployment factors include Installation Manager and Kubernetes.

By using ILMT, you know what IBM software you have, where it is, and how it is being used. The tool monitors the consumption of IBM products under full and subcapacity licensing terms. It shows you the current license consumption, and helps you determine future consumption to optimize your license costs (see IBM License Metric Tool).

For additional information about ILMT and instructions for using it with Operational Decision Manager components, go to the GitHub resource IBM Operational Decision Manager usage metering service.
