Creating dashboards

You can create one or more dashboards, add reports to them, and configure their appearance.

Before you begin

Think about how you want to organize the reports that you view regularly. Do you want to view them in one dashboard, or in several dashboards? Do you want to group and order them according to their purpose, how critical they are, or some other approach? You can always rearrange your dashboards or create new ones.

Procedure

  1. Click My Dashboards > Create New Dashboard to open a new dashboard.
  2. Enter a descriptive name in the Name field. This name is used in the list of dashboards in the menu.
  3. Click Add Report Add a new report icon to display a list of available reports. If you have designated certain reports as favorites, you can check the My Favorites box to see only a list of those reports. If you want to see only graphical reports, check the Chart Only box.
  4. The Add a Report dialog shows a list of all reports that meet your criteria. You can browse the list of reports, or type a string in the Filter field. The list of reports is updated as you type.
  5. Click the title of a report to add it to your dashboard. Continue adding as many reports as you want. When you are finished adding reports, click Close.

Results

You have a dashboard that gives you easy access to some selected reports.

Configuring your dashboard

You can configure several aspects of the appearance of your dashboard to make it as useful as possible.

About this task

Think about how you use your reports. What arrangement makes it easy to achieve your goals? Experiment with these changes.

Procedure

  1. Rearrange the reports. To move a report, place your cursor on the report’s title bar, and drag it to a new location.
  2. Choose a new number of columns by clicking 1, 2, or 3 in the Number of columns area. By default, your reports are shown in two columns. If you need more space for each report, click 1 to see how your reports look when they are the full width of the dashboard. If you prefer to see more reports at one time, try three columns.
  3. Resize your reports. Drag the resize icon to make a report longer or shorter, narrower or wider. If you adjust the width of a report, all the reports in that column use the new width. If you change the number of columns, all columns return to their default widths.

Using your dashboard

Use the steps to add a report to dashboard and then to customize the appearance.

About this task

Dashboard replaces Add to Pane and Add to My Reports.

Procedure

  1. Click on the Dashboard icon from the navigation.
  2. Then click Create New Dashboard.
  3. Click Add Report to select a report from all of the reports that you have access to, including any new reports that you created.
  4. Leverage filtering to quickly find the report you are interested in.
  5. Click the report name to add it to your dashboard. Add as many reports to your dashboard as you want, just by selecting each report.
  6. Customize your dashboard by selecting a layout. The default is two columns. One column - the reports will assume the width of the dashboard. Two columns - the reports will assume half of the width of the dashboard. Three columns - the reports will assume one third the width of the dashboard.
  7. Customize your dashboard by moving the reports within the screen. Use the Modify iconicon to customize the chart.
  8. Designate specific reports as favorites by selecting the Add to favorites icon. When adding reports to a dashboard, filter based on favorites or filter based on charts.
  9. Name your dashboard by clicking on the edit icon.
  10. Delete a dashboard, by clicking on the delete icon Delete icon.
