Parallel broker migration

IBM® Integration Bus Version 9.0 supports parallel broker migration from previous versions, with some restrictions.

IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0 requires a specific minimum supported version of WebSphere® MQ. You must first install a supported version of WebSphere MQ and migrate your WebSphere MQ resources to this version. You can then install IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0. If you are migrating from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1, see Migrating the Version 6.1 WebSphere Message Broker component for more information about how to manage the WebSphere MQ migration. For the latest details of all supported levels of hardware and software, visit the IBM Integration Bus Requirements website.

There are two different ways to migrate your broker components. You can use parallel broker migration to associate the application logic on your existing broker with a separate Version 9.0 integration node (broker). Choose this option if you prefer not to stop the broker (to avoid problems for your business applications) or if you want to reproduce the broker function on another computer.

Alternatively, you can use in-place broker migration to migrate your existing broker components immediately to IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0. You do not need to change your client configurations because the existing broker is migrated in-place to Version 9.0 on the same computer. However, you must stop your broker while migration takes place. For more information, see In-place broker migration.

Parallel broker migration with previous versions of the product installed on the same computer

IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0 can coexist with any previous version of WebSphere Message Broker on the same computer during parallel broker migration.

Component names must be unique on the computer, regardless of version.

When you migrate from a previous version of WebSphere Message Broker to IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0, you do not have to uninstall the previous version of the product before you install Version 9.0. You can install Version 9.0 in a different location on the same computer, migrate your components and resources to Version 9.0, and uninstall the previous version of WebSphere Message Broker later, when you are sure that you no longer need it.

To migrate your brokers by using parallel migration, select the appropriate topic from the following list and complete the tasks that are described:

For details of default locations for installations of each version, see Coexistence and migration.

If you attempt to install IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0 into a directory that already contains an installation of WebSphere Message Broker, you are prompted to cancel the installation and select a different directory to preserve your existing configuration.

If you install more than one version on a single computer, and you create multiple components, check that sufficient memory and disk space are available.

When you have installed Version 9.0, you can test your configuration.

Restrictions on coexistence of Version 9.0 components with previous versions

The following restrictions apply.

Coexistence with SupportPac IS02

The SupportPac IS02, IBM Integration Explorer Plug-in, cannot coexist with the IBM Integration Explorer in IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0. If you previously installed SupportPac IS02, you must uninstall the SupportPac before you install the IBM Integration Explorer Version 9.0. To remove SupportPac IS02, delete or move the directory to which you extracted the IS02 zip file that was supplied with the SupportPac. Delete the BrokerExplorer.link file that you copied into the C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\eclipseSDK33\eclipse\links\ directory.
