Tracking license usage for IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere

License handling and tracking in IBM® RPA with Automation Anywhere differs from Automation Anywhere Enterprise. A license is assigned during the installation of the IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere component and license tracking is done outside of IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your usage complies with the licensing terms and conditions. To track your license usage, use the IBM License Metric Tool.

License types

IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere has following license types:
Virtual Server
A Virtual Server license is required for each installation of the following IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere components within an operating system: Control Room, Bot Runner, and Bot Insight (Control Room functionality).
Authorized user
An Authorized User license is required for each user of the following components: Bot Creator, Attended Bot, and Bot Insight (for users with the Bot Insight Expert or Bot Insight Consumer roles). A license is required for each component.
For general information about these license types, see IBM Passport Advantage Licensing.
Important: Automation Anywhere licenses are not valid for use with IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere. Your IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere license will become invalid if you try to use an Automation Anywhere license with IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere or you modify the license for an IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere installation in any way.

Usage metrics

As you use IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere components, usage metrics are collected. For Virtual Server licenses, usage files (.slmtag files) are created in the C:\ProgramData\IBM\RPA\slm directory on the machine where the IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere component is installed. For Authorized users, the usage file is created in the slm directory on the Control Room machine that the user connects to. The usage files are collected by the IBM BigFix client on the IBM RPA with Automation Anywhere component machine and sent to the License Metric Tool for analysis.

For more information about the License Metric Tool and how you can use it to track your license usage, see the IBM License Metric Tool documentation.
