Obtaining 3-D Bar Charts for Groups of Cases

This feature requires the Statistics Base option.

  1. From the menus choose:

    Graphs > Legacy Dialogs > 3-D Bar

  2. In the 3-D Bar Charts dialog box, select Groups of cases for both the x axis and the z axis.
  3. Click Define.
  4. Select one of the summary functions from the Bars Represent drop-down list to specify what determines the height of the bars. If you need to specify a value for the summary function (for example, a range), click Set Parameters. See the topic Summary Functions for 3-D Bar Charts for more information. Also, if you are using a summary function that requires a continuous variable (for example, mean), move a continuous variable to the Variable field.
  5. Move a categorical variable to each Category Axis field.
  6. If you want to panel the chart, drag and drop a variable into the Panel By group. See the topic Paneled Charts for more information.
  7. If you want to stack or cluster bars using up to two more categorical variables, move the variables into the Stack/Cluster By group. You cannot stack and cluster on both axes.
  8. If you want to format the chart using an existing template, select Use chart specifications from and then click File to locate the template file. See the topic Use Template from File for more information.
  9. If necessary, click Titles to specify the title, subtitle, and footnotes to appear in the chart. See the topic Chart Titles (Creating Charts) for more information.
  10. You can also click Options to specify whether groups defined by missing values are displayed. See the topic Chart Options for more information.

To Change the Measurement Level of a Variable

  1. Right-click the variable in the variable list (you can do this only in the variable list, before moving the variable to a specific field).
  2. Select Categorical or Scale from the pop-up menu.
