View Workflows tab

A workflow is a guided set of steps that help you perform an activity on z/OS®, such as configuring a software product or component, managing a z/OS resource or structure, or simplifying some relatively complex operation. You can use the Workflows tab on the View Software Instance page to view the workflows associated with the software Instance. The properties of a workflow include the name and description of the workflow, the sequence in which the workflows should be performed, as well as the location for the workflow's definition file. A workflow definition file may be managed by SMP/E, in which case the location of the file is specified indirectly using the SMP/E element type and SMP/E element name for the file. Otherwise a partitioned data set name and member, a sequential data set, or a UNIX file, identify the location of the workflow definition file.

For more information about Workflows, see the z/OSMF Programming Guide, topic Creating workflow definitions for z/OS.

For a description of the items displayed on the Workflows tab, see Table 1. For a description of table actions, see Table 2.

Table 1. Fields on the workflows tab
Field Description
Sequence Order in which the workflows should be performed.
Name Name for the workflow.
Description Description of the workflow.
Must Perform on z/OSMF Host System Indicator of whether the workflow steps must be performed on the host system or can be performed on another system in the same sysplex as the host system.
Yes

Indicates that the workflow steps must be performed on the z/OSMF host system on which the software instance resides.

No
Indicates that the workflow steps can be performed on the z/OSMF host system on which the software instance resides or on another system in the sysplex. When a new workflow instance is created, the user designates the system in the sysplex on which the workflow steps will be performed, whether that system is the z/OSMF host system or another system.
SMP/E Element Type / SMP/E Name If the workflow's definition file is SMP/E managed, the SMP/E element type and name for the file.
Data set or UNIX file The location of the workflow's definition file if the file is not SMP/E managed.
