Accommodate the removal of GPMP

Description

In z/OS V2R3, the z/OS Guest Platform Management Provider (GPMP) component, which provides data to the Ensemble management function of the Unified Resource Manager, is removed.

It is recommended that you verify that GPMP is not in use on your system.

GPMP can be started on z/OS in either of the following ways:
  • By entering the operator command Modify WLM,GPMP
  • Through the WLM service definition. The service definition settings for GPMP are set in the WLM ISPF application Option 11 – Edit Guest Platform Management Provider settings.

If neither of these actions is performed, GPMP is not started on your system.

Table 1 provides more details about this migration action. Use this information to plan your changes to the system.

Steps to take

Follow these steps:
  1. To determine whether GPMP is running on your system, enter the command D WLM,AM. If the command output lists a GPMP job name, GPMP is running. Otherwise, if the output shows the following message, GPMP is not running and no further action is required:
NO GUEST PLATFORM MANAGEMENT PROVIDER IS CURRENTLY CONNECTED
  2. If GPMP is running, check for usage of the class com.ibm.wlm.arm40SDK.trans.Arm40TransactionFactory in the directory com.ibm.wlm.arm40SDK.trans.Arm40TransactionFactory.

If WebSphere Application Server is configured to use com.ibm.wlm.arm40SDK.trans.Arm40TransactionFactory as the Request Metrics ARM Transaction Factory class name, remove this setting.
