USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE: Specifying whether to allow use of cylinder managed space for migration copies and backup versions
Explanation: USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE is an optional parameter specifying whether you want to allow use of the cylinder-managed space for migration copies and backup versions. USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE can be abbreviated as USECMS.
The parameters of the USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE parameter are explained:
- Y
- specifies that migration copies and backup versions can reside in EAS. For allocation, DFSMShsm uses EATTR=OPT for its migration copy or backup version.
- N
- specifies that migration copies and backup versions cannot reside in EAS. For allocation DFSMShsm does not specify an EATTR value.
SMS relationship: This parameter has the same meaning when applied to SMS-managed or non-SMS-managed DASD volumes or data sets.
SETSYS default: N (no).
DFSMShsm default: If you do not specify this parameter on any SETSYS command, the DFSMShsm default is N (no).
Note:
- When using the ARECOVER command, the specified USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE parameter will determine allocation of migrated data sets specified in the INCLUDE list.
- When using the FREEVOL command, if USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE(Y) was specified and migration copies, backup versions, or VTOC copies are going to be moved, then EATTR=OPT is specified. Otherwise, an EATTR value is not specified.
- When you issue the QUERY SETSYS command, the value of the USECYLINDERMANAGEDSPACE is displayed as USECMS=value.
