Reestablishing access to previously deleted, migrated data sets (no backup exists, ML2 only)

Perform the following steps to reestablish access to previously deleted, migrated data sets:

  1. Keep multiple CDS backup versions so you can recover from situations such as this.
  2. Create backup copies of data sets that are important. Without a backup copy, the migration copy of a data set is the only copy you have.
  3. Use the DCOLLECT function to track what data exists in active, migrated, or backed up format at the time the DCOLLECT function is run. If you run DCOLLECT daily or a couple of times a week, with output going to a generation data group (GDG), the DCOLLECT information could be a valuable asset in data recovery.
