Devices supported by DFSMShsm

DFSMShsm supports devices other than those specifically recommended in the examples in this document. For example, ML2 volumes can be either tape or DASD. Daily backup and spill backup volumes can also be either tape or DASD.

DFSMShsm can be used on the following device types:
  • All models of 3390, 9345, and 3380 DASD
  • IBM® 3494 and 3495 Tape Library Dataservers
  • All models of 3590-1, 3490, 3480, 3480XF (with or without cartridge loaders), and 3592 (including Model J and Model E05, Model E06, and Model E07 tape drives)
  • Cache storage controls for DFSMShsm control data sets:
    • IBM 2105
    • IBM 2107
    • IBM 3990
    • IBM 3880 Model 23
    • IBM 3880 Model 13 (only indexes)
  • Object Storage with OpenStack Swift API using Keystone or tempauth authorization
Note: DFSMShsm normally uses only non-WORM media for non-ABARS functions. DFSMShsm uses all media, including physical and logical WORM, for ABACKUP output processing. DFSMShsm can use WORM media for non-ABARS processing and ARECOVER to tape, if specifically allowed by your installation. See APAR OA07768 for details.
Tip: For improved performance, the DFSMShsm control data sets should be on cache storage controllers.
