Ensuring that your data is centrally located

The primary z/OSMF instance is the z/OSMF instance to which your Web browser is connected. You can connect your Web browser to any z/OSMF instance in your installation; however, it is recommended that your installation use only one z/OSMF instance to perform software management actions.

Doing so ensures that all of the data about your software can be accessed using a single z/OSMF instance. Otherwise, the data will not be centrally located; instead, it will be spread across the z/OSMF instances used in your installation. In which case, to obtain an enterprise view of your software-related data, you must look across multiple z/OSMF instances or manually merge the data together.

For related considerations, see the topic about configuring, modifying, and using multiple z/OSMF instances in IBM z/OS Management Facility Configuration Guide.
