About progress indicators
Progress indicators in z/OSMF are used to indicate how close you are to completing a task or to inform you that z/OSMF is processing a request that might take several minutes to complete. Progress indicators can be displayed in a field, column, or in a separate window. This topic describes progress indicators that are displayed in a separate window. For a description of progress indicators that are displayed in a field or column, see the corresponding help for that field or column.
- Descriptive text that informs you that a request is being processed
- Percent complete (optional)
- Number of items or steps that have been processed or completed (optional)
- Cancel button (optional)
Sample progress indicators
Figure 1 depicts a progress indicator that contains only descriptive text. Figure 2 depicts a progress indicator that contains descriptive text, the percent complete, and a Cancel button.
Canceling progress indicators
While a progress indicator is displayed, you might not be able to perform actions within the current tab or pane. If a Cancel button is provided, you can click it to close the progress indicator window. If a Cancel button is not provided, you cannot close the window. It will close automatically when the request completes.
If you click Cancel while z/OSMF is still processing a request, z/OSMF stops processing the request, discards any data that was collected for the request, and returns you to the page where the request was initiated. No partial results are saved or displayed.
If you click Cancel and z/OSMF has already completed the request, the progress indicator window is closed and the results of the request are saved or displayed as appropriate for the request.
