Establishing addressability to a data space

z/OS MVS Programming: Extended Addressability Guide
SA23-1394-00

Creating a data space does not give you addressability to that data space. Before you can use the data space, you must issue the ALESERV macro, which adds an entry to an access list and returns the ALET that indexes the entry. Examples of this process appear in this chapter; Using access registers, contains additional examples.

When you use ALESERV, you can omit the ACCESS parameter, which specifies whether an access list entry is public or private. Data space entries are always public, the default for ACCESS.
