The expiration date shown in the HDR1 label is not verified for input data sets, unless the processing method is INOUT. For INOUT, if the expiration date has not been reached, the system notifies the operator and asks for confirmation of the use of the tape. If confirmation is not received, processing is abnormally terminated. If you override the INOUT specification by coding LABEL=(,,,IN) on the DD statement, the expiration date is not verified. Automatic handling of expiration date protected tapes is provided by DFSMSrmm functions.
