Tape marks

z/OS DFSMS Using Magnetic Tapes
SC23-6858-00

A data set or label group on tape is usually followed by a tape mark delimiter. A tape mark is a special character written by a control command. (In the figures in this manual, tape mark is represented as TM.) The tape drive recognizes a tape mark during a read operation and signals a unit exception condition to the operating system. The tape mark is not read into virtual storage.
