Mixed Device Esoteric Units z/OS DFSMS Software Support for IBM System Storage TS1140, TS1130, and TS1120 Tape Drives (3592) SC23-6854-00 |
|
Keeping with the philosophy of allowing only write compatible tape devices to coexist in the same esoteric, 3592-E06 drives will be allowed in the same esoteric with 3592-E05 drives (both encryption capable and non-encryption capable) but not allowed in the same esoteric with 3592-J1A drives. The read-only compatibility between the 3592-E06 and 3592-J1A (of the EFMT1 format) does not meet the write-compatibility requirements for a mixed esoteric. In a stand-alone (non IBM library) tape environment, the user must make sure all drives in a mixed esoteric will use a recording technology they have in common when they write data to tape. For 3592-E05 and 3592-E06 drives the common recording technologies for read and write are EFMT2 and EEFMT2. |
