mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss UNABLE TO ACCESS SPOOL FILE spoolid SMTP STOPPED

Explanation

SMTP detected a JES spool file that it cannot access. Trying to do I/O functions to this file would have resulted in ABENDS001 in SMTP. SMTP was stopped to allow the system administrator to look at the spool file and correct the application that is generating the spool file. This error might have been caused by an improperly closed file.

mm/dd/yy is the date (month/day/year) of the message.

hh:mm:ss is the time (hours:minutes:seconds) of the message.

spoolid is the JES spool identifier (SSSOJOBI).

System programmer response

Check the application that generated the spool file for SMTP. Delete the current spool file or change the destination to be something other than the SMTP started procedure. If more of these spool files are expected, then SMTP can be configured to automatically delete them. See the z/OS Communications Server: IP Configuration Reference for more information about the configuration statement DELETEBADSPOOLFILE.
