z/OS ISPF User's Guide Vol II
SC19-3628-00

The LOCATE primary command scrolls the directory list based on the field on which the directory list is sorted, as described under SORT command. Use this format:

Read syntax diagramSkip visual syntax diagram
>>-LOCATE--lparm-----------------------------------------------><

You can use the lparm operand with the LOCATE command for either of these situations:

  • If the list is sorted by the Filename field, specify a file name.
  • If the list is sorted by another field, specify a value for the field by which the list is sorted.

The command can be abbreviated as L.

For example, for a directory list sorted by type, you could enter:
L Syml

This command locates the first symbolic link file in the directory list. If the value is not found, the list is displayed starting with the entry before which the specified value would have occurred.
