You can use either the pax or the tar shell command to create the archive file. All the component files are stored in one archive file. For more information, see Backing up and restoring files from the shell, and also see z/OS UNIX System Services Command Reference for a complete description of the pax and tar commands.

If you need to convert to a different code page than the one used in the shell, use the pax command with the -o option. See Backing up and restoring files: options for more information.
