Defining channel-attached printers

This topic shows examples of how to define printers to your I/O configuration with basic definitions or definitions for sharing printers. The examples in this topic are described by using MVSCP/IOCP statements; however, you can use HCD to define your I/O configuration.

Note:
These examples are not meant to include all the steps required to define a printer. For more details about the steps required to define a printer with HCD, see z/OS HCD User’s Guide.

For more flexibility when adding AFP1 printers to the I/O configuration, define the printer as AFP1, which lets any AFP1 channel-attached printer use that device address. When defining a 3800 printer for performance reasons, use a block-multiplex channel and use the data streaming protocol. For high-speed, APF1 parallel channel-attached printers, such as the InfoPrint 4000, specify a data transfer protocol of 4.5 MB data streaming (S4).
