Sametime Media Manager

The IBM® Sametime® Media Manager is available for installing on the Linux or Windows platforms only. The Sametime Video Manager and Sametime Video MCU components run only on Linux, and can be used only with the Sametime Conference or Sametime Complete offerings.

About this task

The Sametime Media Manager consists of four components that can be installed separately:
  • Sametime SIP Proxy/Registrar
  • Sametime Video Manager
    Note: Install the Sametime Video Manager Server prior to installing the Sametime Conference Manager.
  • Sametime Conference Manager
  • Sametime Video MCU
  1. Setting up the Install Sametime Media Manager guided activities
    Use the IBM Sametime System Console to prepare to install Sametime Media Manager servers by pre-populating values required for installation. You must complete a guided activity for every Media Manager server you plan to install, which creates a deployment plan for the installation program. You must have a deployment plan for every Media Manager server before you start installing any component. The Video Manager and Video MCU are available only on Linux, and only with the Sametime Conference and Sametime Complete offerings.
  2. Installing the Sametime Media Manager's SIP Proxy/Registrar separately
    Install the IBM Sametime Media Manager's SIP Proxy/Registrar on its own computer. Installing a separate SIP Proxy/Registrar gives you the option of installing additional instances of the same server later, and then clustering them for high availability and failover. This option requires that you created a deployment plan using the Install SIP Proxy/Registrar option. You must also have created all other deployment plans for Media Manager components you plan to install separately.
  3. Installing the Sametime Media Manager Video Manager
    Install the IBM Sametime Media Manager Video Manager. This option requires that you created a deployment plan using the Install Video Manager option. You must also have created all other deployment plans for Media Manager components you plan to install separately. Remember that the Video Manager is available only on Linux, and only with the Sametime Conference and Sametime Complete offerings. If you are deploying Sametime Communicate, the Video Manager is included in the Sametime Media Manager package but cannot be deployed because it is dependent on the Video MCU component, which is not included in that package.
  4. Installing the Sametime Media Manager's Conference Manager as a separate component
    Install the IBM Sametime Media Manager's Conference Manager component on its own computer. Installing a separate Conference Manager gives you the option of installing additional instances of the same server later, and then clustering them for high availability and failover. This option requires that you created a deployment plan using the Install Conference Manager option. You must also have created all other deployment plans for Media Manager components you plan to install separately.
  5. Installing the Sametime Media Manager's combined PR+CF components
    Install the IBM Sametime Media Manager's SIP Proxy/Registrar and Conference Manager on the same computer. This option requires that you created a deployment plan using the Install PR+CF option. You must also have created all other deployment plans for Media Manager components you plan to install separately. The combined components cannot be clustered for high availability; if you expect to require clustering in the future, you should install the SIP Proxy/Registrar and the Conference Manager on separate computers now.
  6. Installing the Sametime Media Manager Video MCU
    Install the IBM Sametime Media Manager Video MCU. Remember that the Video MCU is available only on Linux, and only with the Sametime Conference and Sametime Complete offerings.
