Unconfiguring a storage system

You can unconfigure a storage system by removing all of the elements of the storage configuration.

Before you begin

Remove or backup all of the data that is stored on the storage system. Ensure that any data left on the storage system is no longer needed. Ensure that the host is no longer sending I/O to volumes before you begin this task.

Procedure

Complete the following steps in the DS8000 Storage Management GUI to unconfigure the storage system.

  1. If you have fixed block (FB) volumes that are connected to an open systems host, unmap the volumes from the host by using the Unmap All Volumes action on the Volumes by Host page.
  2. Remove all hosts by using the Remove action on the Hosts page.
  3. Remove any Copy Services relationships from the volumes. This step must be completed by using the DS command-line interface (DS CLI).
  4. Delete all volumes by using the Delete action on the Volumes page.
Note: Aliases that are assigned to count key data (CKD) volumes are deleted automatically.
  5. If you have CKD logical subsystems (LSSs) on the storage system, delete all LSSs by using the Delete action on the Volumes by LSS page.
Note: LSS is synonymous with logical control unit (LCU) and subsystem identification (SSID).
  6. Delete all pools by using the Delete action on the Arrays by Pool page.
When the pools are deleted, all arrays are automatically unassigned and formatted. When an array is formatted, the RAID level and storage type are unconfigured and secure erase removes all data from the drives in the array.
  7. Optional: If remote authentication is enabled, clear the remote authentication policy settings by using the DS CLI.
  8. Optional: If encryption is enabled, disable encryption on the Encryption tab of the Security settings page.
  9. Optional: If multitenancy scopes are used on the storage system, delete the multitenancy scope settings by using the DS CLI.
  10. Optional: Disable Easy Tier settings on the Easy Tier tab of the System settings page.
  11. Optional: Remove all users, except for one administrator and one security administrator, by using the Remove action on the Users page.
  12. Optional: Reset the passwords for the remaining administrator and security administrator, by using the Reset Password action on the Users page.
