Maps overview

You use maps to view and work with map features in spatial-enabled applications.

The Map tab and map windows contain these sections:
Map section Description
Header Displays information about the current application record:
  • Identifier.
  • Description.
  • Status.
  • Feature class. If the Feature Class field is empty, the current record is not linked to a map feature. If the Feature Class field is not empty, the current record is linked to a map feature from that feature class.
  • Attachments.
Map Displays the map. Each map can have one or more map layers (for example, roads, electrical). Each layer can display one or more feature classes (for example, streetlights, power poles). Each feature class can be represented on the map by a map feature (for example, asset 3406 - a concrete power pole, represented by a point).

When you select a record that is linked with a map feature and open a map, the map centers on the map feature. If you do not select any records, the default map view is the extent determined by your geographic information system (GIS) software.

Map toolbar The toolbar contains the tools, and help for the tools, that you use to work with the map.
Zoom slider A slider that you use to zoom in and out of the current map extent.
