Changing log details levels for IBM Business Monitor server

To set the levels of trace for IBM® Business Monitor server components, you can change log details.

Before you begin

Before you begin this task, you must log in to the WebSphere® Application Server administrative console.

About this task

Complete the following steps to configure the logging levels for IBM Business Monitor server components:

Procedure

  1. In the WebSphere Application Server administrative console, click Troubleshooting > Logs and Trace.
  2. In the Server column, click the name of the application server on which the components whose logging levels you want to set are deployed.
  3. Click Change Log Level Details.
  4. Ensure that Components is selected.
Note: You can also trace a specific model by selecting Groups and then changing the trace level in the model and version in the list provided.
  5. Choose one of the following options:
    • If you want to change the logging levels for the current session only, select the Runtime tab.
    • If you want to set the logging levels for all sessions, select the Configuration tab.
    • If you want to change the logging levels for the current session and across all sessions, select the Runtime tab, and select Save runtime changes to configuration as well.
You should record the current log settings in a safe place. You will need this information to disable the detailed logging.
  6. Click + associated with com.ibm.wbimonitor to expand the component loggers.
  7. Click a logger name to change the log details. To enable tracing on specific components, click one of these logger groups:
    • com.ibm.wbimonitor.dataservices.*
    • com.ibm.wbimonitor.lifecycle.*
    • com.ibm.wbimonitor.observationmgr.*

If you are unsure which component logger to trace, you can enable tracing on com.ibm.wbimonitor.* to trace on all IBM Business Monitor components. Tracing on the com.ibm.wbimonitor.* logger will generate a large amount of data. However, there is a greater performance impact associated with this level of trace.

  8. Choose the appropriate level of tracing.
Note: When you change the level for a logger, the change is propagated to the children of the logger.
For additional information regarding trace levels, click ? in the title bar of the panel to open the help page.
  9. Optional: If you selected the Runtime tab, select Save runtime changes to configuration as well to apply the changes in the logging details levels across all sessions.
  10. Click OK, and click Save to save changes to the master configuration.
  11. Optional: If you made the changes in the Configuration tab, restart the IBM Business Monitor server .
