Copying data from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to IBM Spectrum Protect

For longer term protection, you can copy data from IBM Spectrum® Protect Plus to IBM Spectrum Protect.

Before you begin

Review the requirements and restrictions that apply to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.
Tip: In previous releases, the process of copying data from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to IBM Spectrum Protect was known as offloading data. Beginning with IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.9 and IBM Spectrum Protect Plus V10.1.5, the process is known as copying data.
Verify the product versions. To integrate IBM Spectrum Protect Plus with IBM Spectrum Protect, these versions are required:
  • IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.7 or later.
  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Version 10.1.3 or later.
Also, verify that you can open an IBM Spectrum Protect server port to the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus object client that you plan to use for data copy operations.
  • The default port number is 9000.
  • If there are any firewalls between the object client and agent, configure the object agent to access the appropriate port through the firewall.

About this task

To copy data, you must set up IBM Spectrum Protect Plus as an object client to the IBM Spectrum Protect server. After you set up a corresponding object agent on the IBM Spectrum Protect server and start the service, copy operations are enabled.

You can also copy infrequently accessed data, or cold data, from the object client to the IBM Spectrum Protect server so that the server can store the data on physical tape media or in a virtual tape library (VTL).

Restriction: An object client must be an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server.
