Setting visualization properties

You can set Visualization, General, Synchronize, and Custom properties to determine the appearance of a visualization and its behaviors. For example, you can pick the color palette or set the position of the legend in a visualization. The properties that you can set vary according to the type of visualization you are using; not all properties are available for all visualizations.

Procedure

  1. In Edit mode, click anywhere on a visualization.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Under Visualization, set properties for your visualization. Some examples are:
    • Color - Pick the color palette that you want to see in the visualization.

    • Axis - Under this section, you can choose how the axes display. You can choose to show or hide the item axis or column axis lines, show axis titles, show axis title labels, format the axis titles and axis title labels, and more.

If the visualization uses repeat column or row filters, you can format repeat column and repeat row titles.

You can also hide the hierarchy name in an axis title to shorten the label. The axis title shows both the hierarchy name and the name of the set or member that was selected. When the hierarchy name is hidden, you see the name of only the set or the selected member.

    • Legend - In visualizations with legends, click Show legend to display the legend. You can also select a legend position and set properties for the legend and legend title.

As in axis titles, you can hide the hierarchy name in a legend title to shorten the label. Hiding the hierarchy name displays only the set or the selected member of the dimension.

    • Chart - For eligible visualizations, you can add a zoom bar, hide grid lines, set item labels or value labels to display, improve the visibility of labels, and enable the Responsive property to hide certain aspects of the visualization if the size is limited and maximize the space that is available to display data. Enable Value axis show zero origin if you want to see the zero origin on the value axis.

You can also set how data points interpolate in certain visualizations with Interpolation.

For Tree map visualizations, enable Show leaf labels to see labels for leaf members in the visualization.

Line and Column visualizations have a Synchronize axes property. By default, Line and Column visualizations use separate vertical axis value ranges for the two measures in a visualization. When Synchronize axes is enabled, the visualization uses a common vertical axis range for both measures, resulting in a more accurate visual representation of your data. In Planning Analytics Workspace Classic, this property was known as Share vertical axis range .

  4. Under the General tab, set general appearance properties for the visualization, such as Fill color, Border color, and Widget opacity, and set layout properties like alignment, positioning, and size.
  5. Set the level of synchronization you want for the visualization under Synchronize.
  6. Under the Custom tab, set the Set editor access and Toolbar properties.
    Set editor
Enable the Allow access to Set editor option to allow users to access the Set editor from the view. Disable the option to prevent access to the Set editor. When you disable access to the Set editor, users cannot open the Set editor, but they can select from members of the current set.
    Toolbar

To manage which icons are available on the toolbar for you and your users, you can apply the Toolbar icon settings in the Properties panel. Click the Custom properties tab to view all the available Toolbar icons that you can set.

Depending on the visualization, you can choose to display or hide the following available toolbar icons:
    • Save
    • Format values
    • Sandbox selection
    • Change visualization
When you select both a cube viewer and other visualizations in a book only the common toolbar icons are available.
