IBM Streams 4.3.0

Installing IBM Streams (Quick Start Edition for Linux)

Use this procedure to install the IBM® Streams product of Quick Start Edition for Linux.

If an X Window System is installed, the installation starts in interactive GUI mode. If an X Window System is not installed, the installation starts in interactive console mode.

Before you begin

Run the dependency checker script to verify that your system satisfies the software requirements for IBM Streams.

If you are running the installation program as a root user, the program prompts you to specify the user and group that will own the installed files. The root user cannot own the installed files.

If you are running the installation program as a non-root user, you are the owner of the IBM Streams installation.

Important: For both root and non-root installations, the user ID and group that own the installation must exist before running the IBM Streams installation program.
During the installation, you are prompted to specify the root installation directory for the installed IBM Streams files. The installation program appends a product version directory to the root directory. The default installation root directory depends on your authority:
  • If you have root authority, the default root directory is /opt/ibm/InfoSphere_Streams.
  • If you do not have root authority, the default root directory is home-directory/InfoSphere_Streams.
For example, if you are installing the product with root authority and accept the default installation directory, the product is installed in the /opt/ibm/InfoSphere_Streams/4.3.0.0 directory.

About this task

The following procedure provides minimal steps for installing IBM Streams. For more detailed information, see Installing IBM Streams by using the interactive or silent method.

Procedure

  1. Enter the following command from the product-installation-package-directory/StreamsInstallFiles directory:
      ./IBMStreamsSetup.bin
  2. If you are installing IBM Streams in interactive GUI mode, perform the following steps on the Postinstallation Tasks page.
    1. Ensure that the Open Domain Manager is selected. The Domain Manager helps you to complete postinstallation tasks for IBM Streams.
    2. Click Next to complete the installation. The Installation Complete page displays, the Domain Manager opens in a separate window, and your Quick Start Edition license is automatically activated.
  3. After reviewing the information on the Installation Complete page, click Done to exit the installation program.
  4. If the Installation Complete page indicates that the installation program detected errors or warnings, review the installation summary log file and resolve any issues. This log file is in the product-installation-root-directory/4.3.0.0/logs directory.
  5. Configure the IBM Streams product environment variables by entering the following command:
    source product-installation-root-directory/4.3.0.0/bin/streamsprofile.sh
Note: Add the source command to your home-directory/.bashrc shell initialization file. Otherwise, you must enter the command every time you start IBM Streams. For example, if the product is installed in the /home/streamsadmin/InfoSphere_Streams/4.3.0.0 directory, add the following line to your .bashrc file:
    source /home/streamsadmin/InfoSphere_Streams/4.3.0.0/bin/streamsprofile.sh
