Basics of streams processing applications

A streams processing application is a collection of operators, all of which process streams of data. You develop applications in the Streams Studio integrated development environment and run them in an IBM® Streams instance.

IBM Streams environment
You develop streams processing applications in an integrated development environment, then you run those applications in instances on one or more computers.

A streams processing application is a collection of operators, all of which process streams of data.
Streams and windows
Streams are sequences of data that flow between operators in a streams processing application.
Toolkits
A toolkit is a collection of artifacts that are organized into a package. A toolkit includes one or more namespaces, which contain the operators, functions, and types that are packaged as part of the toolkit, all of which can then be reused in other applications.
Operators
Operators are the fundamental building blocks of streams processing applications. Operators process tuples in incoming streams and produce output streams as a result.
SPL language elements
Some elements of the Streams Processing Language (SPL) are similar to the concepts and syntax of traditional programming languages, such as types and expressions. But the design of SPL is focused on processing streaming data.
Running applications in distributed execution environments
You run an application in a distributed execution environment by submitting an application bundle file to an IBM Streams instance.
