Content Search Services Support installation scenarios

When you install IBM® Content Collector P8 Content Search Services Support, you can determine whether the Content Search Services Support configuration data is stored in the configuration store or is stored entirely in the constructors.xml configuration file which must be maintained manually.

The following installation scenarios exist:
  • You are installing Content Search Services Support for the first time or you are upgrading from Content Search Services Support for Content Collector V3, and you have configured your Content Collector environment to work with one IBM FileNet® P8 server.

In this case, the Content Search Services Support configuration is stored in the configuration store which you can access using the IBM Content Collector Configuration Manager by default.

Storing the Content Search Services Support configuration in the Content Collector configuration store is the preferred method but is not supported in an environment with more than one IBM FileNet P8 server.

The constructors.xml file that exists when the Content Search Services Support configuration is stored in the configuration store contains only the name of the document preprocessor, the document class, path information to the configuration store that stores the configuration data, and the symbolic name.

  • You are installing Content Search Services Support for the first time and you do not want to store the Content Search Services Support configuration data in the configuration store, or you are installing Content Search Services Support in an environment with more than one IBM FileNet P8 server.

In this case, install Content Search Services Support and use dummy values when specifying the web application service credentials.

To configure additional Content Search Services Support options, you have to adapt the <ContentSearchServicesInstallDir>\config\constructors.xml file in each IBM Content Search Services instance directly. Copy and adapt configuration options, attributes, and repository attributes based on the sample constructors.xml files that are located in samples sub directory of the Content Search Services Support installation directory.

  • You are upgrading from an earlier version of Content Search Services Support that did not support using the IBM Content Collector Configuration Manager and want to use the Configuration Manager with the configuration changes that you made directly in the constructors.xml file.

In this case, install Content Search Services Support and enter a dummy value for the host name of the server running the IBM Content Collector web applications. Replace the new constructors.xml file that was created with the dummy values you entered with the backup configuration file ContentSearchServicesInstallDir\config\constructors.xml.ICC.backup. Remember to rename the backup file.

  • You are upgrading from an earlier version of Content Search Services Support and you want to continue working directly with the constructors.xml file.

In this case, replace the newly installed constructors.xml file with the backup copy that is created during installation. Remember that you must replace the configuration file on all IBM Content Search Services instances.

Also, if you used the configuration option *DumpDocuments for debugging purposing in your earlier installation, you must edit the file and change the option to DumpDocumentIds.
