Configuring secure communication with a self-signed certificate

You can substitute the default certificate that is delivered with License Metric Tool by a self-signed certificate that you can generate in License Metric Tool. A self-signed certificate contains a public key, information about the owner of the certificate, and the owner's signature. Because such a certificate is signed by its own private key, it does not provide means to verify the origin of the certificate through a trusted certificate authority. Most browsers display a warning message when a self-signed certificate is used.

Procedure

  1. Log in to License Metric Tool.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click Management > Server Settings.
  3. In the Certificate section, click replace.
  4. Select Generate a self-signed certificate.
  5. Specify the certificate subject common name. The common name must correspond to the DNS name of the License Metric Tool server.
  6. In the Expiration Date field, enter the date when the certificate expires.
  7. Click Save.
  8. For the changes to take effect, restart the server.
    1. Stop the server.
    2. Start the server.
