Getting started with the workspace for users
The getting started with the workspace for users workflow outlines high-level steps to set up and customize an IBM® Control Center personal workspace. This workflow describes how to plan, configure, and troubleshoot a workspace.
Important: Most of this outline pertains to a user with a Personal permission.
Planning for the workspace
Before you customize your personal workspace, you need to plan how you will use the workspace. Consider the following questions before you set up your workspace:- Do you know and understand which workspace permission your administrator assigned you?
- Do the widgets that are provided with IBM Control Center meet your needs?
- Do you need to create new widgets?
- See Permissions for more information on workspace permissions.
- See Overview of the workspace for more information on the workspace.
- See Workspace features for information on the features to customize the workspace.
- See Overview of the workspace, Size of Files over Time widget, Active Alerts by Category widget, and Sterling Connect:Direct FASP usage widget to learn about the widgets that are provided with IBM Control Center.
Configuring for the workspace
After you plan for the workspace, you must set up and customize your workspace. The following list contains tasks to complete when you configure your workspace:- If you need to create widgets that are not provided with IBM Control
Center V6.0, complete those tasks. You
must have knowledge of IBM Cognos® Report Studio
to create new widgets.
- To create widgets, see Creating widgets for the IBM Control Center workspace.
- Customize your workspace.
- To customize a workspace, Workspace layout and style.
Administering the workspace
Important: If your workspace permission is removed or changed, then the workspace is
updated or deleted automatically to reflect the change. After you customize your personal workspace,
there is another task that you can complete to change the default linking between widgets. By
default, IBM Control
Center widgets are linked
together. If you change a filter on one widget, it also applies to the other widgets on the selected
workspace. To disable the linking between widgets, see Disabling linking between widgets.
