IBM Tivoli Composite Application Agent for WebSphere Applications, Version 7.2

WebSphere Virtual Enterprise and intelligent management capabilities

Install ITCAM Agent for WebSphere® Applications on a cell that is running WebSphere Virtual Enterprise or is performing intelligent management functions to monitor a WebSphere Virtual Enterprise environment.

Important: Before WebSphere Application Server version 8.5, WebSphere Virtual Enterprise was a separate product from the WebSphere Application Server. In WebSphere Application Server version 8.5, WebSphere Virtual Enterprise is integrated into WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment. WebSphere Virtual Enterprise functions in Network Deployment version 8.5 are characterized as intelligent management capabilities.

You can configure ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications to monitor Virtual Enterprise or the intelligent management capabilities from the Tivoli® Enterprise Portal using XD Take Action commands. For more information, see the IBM® Tivoli Composite Application Manager: Agent for WebSphere Applications User Guide.

The Deployment Manager is a sensitive part of the deployment. You do not have to install any code on the computer where the Deployment Manager is running. Instead, you can configure the monitoring agent on any node in the WebSphere Virtual Enterprise environment or on any node that is performing intelligent management functions. The monitoring agent communicates with the Deployment Manager over the network.

In your environment, ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications can monitor every WebSphere server instance, including instances that are created dynamically. To monitor servers in a virtual enterprise or an intelligent management environment, you deploy the monitoring agent and the data collector on every node. You use the configtemplate script, that is provided in the DC_home\bin directory on Windows systems or in the DC_home/bin directory on Linux and UNIX systems, to create a server template which has ITCAM Data Collector for WebSphere Applications configured. The script adds the itcam template to the WebSphere template repository.

When you create a cluster in the Virtual Enterprise or an intelligent management environment using the itcam template, the data collector is configured automatically for every WebSphere server instance that is dynamically created. For more information about creating clusters configurations using the itcam template, see the IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager: Agent for WebSphere Applications Installation and Configuration Guide.
