Lesson 2.2: Importing raw data sets

This lesson explains how to import a raw data set into the application, monitor the progress of the import task, and access the results of the completed import. During the import process, you can apply one or more filters that you have defined to limit the amount of data that is going to be analyzed for signature candidates for expectation list software.

The goal of the lesson is to import a raw data set so that its contents can be filtered and parsed. Filtering the data set is crucial as it facilitates the analysis of the data. It also makes it able to determine whether the information collected in the distributed software environment can be used to generate new signatures. The next lesson will focus on viewing the contents of the set and sorting it so that business-relevant information could be located.

To import a sample raw data set into the application:

Procedure
  1. From the navigation bar, select Analyze Raw Data > Raw Data Sets.
  2. In the Raw Data Sets window, click the New Import button within the New Raw Data Set Import. The Import Raw Data Set window opens.
  3. Type Sample raw data set as a descriptive name for the raw data set to be imported using the Set name field.
  4. Select Raw data file in the Select File Format section of the window.
  5. Select the filters you want to use to process the raw data set.
    1. In the Available Filters column, select Filter 1 and Filter 2.
    2. Click the right arrow icon to add them to the Selected Filters list.

  6. Click Browse to locate the raw_data_set file in the file system and then click Open. The file path will be inserted in the field provided.
  7. Click OK to run the import. You are redirected to the Raw Data Sets window. A new import task is added to the list of tasks displayed in the Raw Data Import Tasks section of the window.
  8. Click Refresh List in the section to verify the current status of your import task.
  9. After the task is completed which is indicated with the task finished successfully icon, click Refresh List in the Raw Data Sets section of the window. The imported Sample raw data set will be displayed in the table in this section.
  10. Select the data set and click View to open its filtered contents in a new window
