Disk drive locking device

Use the disk drive locking device to ensure that your disk drives are appropriately secure. This lock can only be used only on stand-alone systems. Complete the procedure in this section to install the device.

  1. Remove the door to the system unit or expansion unit. For instructions on removing the stand-alone system unit door, see Remove the door from the model 285, 52x, 55x, or OpenPower 720.
  2. Remove the front cover. For instructions on removing the cover, see Remove the front cover from the model 285, 52x, 55x, OpenPower 720, or the 0595 expansion unit.
  3. On the system, tighten plate A to the server using screws B. Place plate C over A and tighten with thumb screw D, as shown in the following figure.

  4. Install the system unit door or close the rack front door. For instructions on installing the system unit door, see Install or replace the door on the model 285, 52x, 55x, or OpenPower 720.
Tip: To lock the system, use a 3/16 inch (4.76 millimeters) shackle.
To prevent difficulty in reinstalling the cover, ensure that:
  • The lock thickness is 7/16 inch (11.11 millimeters) or less.
  • The lock is not wider than 1 ¼ inch (31.75 millimeters).
