USB port over current error detected. The port location is listed in the
serviceable event view
with the "USBPORT" symbolic FRU. The logical port number is the last character of the URC.
Problem determination
USB port numbers start with '1' and are in the hexadecimal range
of 1 through F for each USB port on an adapter.
For the USB port identified by the last digit of the URC,
there is a problem with the power being drawn by the device. If the device is
within operating specifications it may work properly when plugged into another USB port or
another USB adapter. If the device is moved to a different port and this error is logged against
the port where the device is plugged then the device may be failing. Try moving the device
to a different adapter.
If the device operates properly on another USB port or on another system then the problem is with
the USB adapter or the adapter's USB port.
Remove the
device on the port given in the location code of symbolic FRU "USBPORT" and look for a
xxxx31By SRC to be logged where "xxxx" are the same characters
as the first four characters of this SRC and 'y' is the same as the last character of this SRC.
If the xxxx31By SRC is logged at about the same time that you removed the device then examine
the location code of symbolic FRU "USBPORT" for the xxxx31By SRC. If the location code for
"USBPORT" is the same as the adapter and port location called out by this SRC then the problem
at this port has been corrected. The device may be failing.
The device may function properly on another USB port or another system.
If the xxxx31By SRC is not logged then work the failing item list in the serviceable event
view or from the list below.
