Running online diagnostics in service mode with a management console attached
Use this procedure to run online diagnostics in service mode with an management console attached.
Perform the following steps:
- Stop all programs including the AIX® operating system. For details, see Powering on and powering off the system.
- Choose one of the following navigation options depending
on the interface type of the Hardware Management Console (HMC):
- If you are using an HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface,
complete the following steps:
- In the navigation area, click Systems Management > Servers.
- In the content pane, expand the server that contains the partition you want to test and select the required partition name.
- From the tasks menu, click Console Window > Open Terminal Window.
- If you are using an HMC Enhanced+ interface,
complete the following steps:
- In the navigation area, click the Resources icon
, and then click All Systems. - In the content pane, click the server name that contains the partition you want to test.
- In the content pane, select the required partition, and then click Actions > Console > Open Terminal Window.
- In the navigation area, click the Resources icon
- If you are using an HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface,
complete the following steps:
- From the Service Processor Menu on the VTERM, select option 2 (System Power Control).
- Select option 6.
- Verify that the state changes to currently disabled. Disabling fast system boot automatically enables slow boot.
- Select option 98 to exit the system power control menu.
- From the management console, start the managed system in a full system partition.
- Select Power on Diagnostic Stored Boot list.
- Make sure that there is no media in the devices in the media subsystem.
- Enter any passwords, if requested.
- When the Diagnostic Operating Instructions screen displays,
follow the online instructions to check the desired resources. Note: If you do not receive the Diagnostic Operating Instructions display, try to run the stand-alone diagnostics. For details, see Running the stand-alone hardware diagnostics.
- When finished, contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider with any information you received during the diagnostics, including service request numbers (SRNs).
