Viewing multidimensional resource plan allocation details

View the resource allocation details of a multidimensional resource plan for a consumer and child consumers directly under the consumer.

Before you begin

The multidimensional resource plan allocation details are only visible if you have at least one multidimensional resource plan defined, and you have EGO_RESPLAN_VIEW permission.

Procedure

  1. From the cluster management console, select Resources > Resource Planning (Multidimensional) > Resource Allocation.
  2. Select the multidimensional plan name from the Plan list.
  3. Select the name of the consumer you want to work with, from the Consumer list.

The page updates with resource allocation details for the selected plan for the selected consumer and its direct children. For example, if you select a consumer (called c1) who has several two levels of children under c1 (such as c1/c11/c111), you see the resource allocation details for c1 (the consumer) and c11 (the direct child ); you do not see details for the second level child (c111). Note also that you see only the direct child consumers that you are authorized to view.

The page contains two parts: one shows allocation details for the plan in relation to the consumer (such as for c1); the other shows allocation details of the consumer's direct children (such as for c11).

You can define four predefined resource metrics (maxmem, maxswp, maxtmp, and ncpus), or a custom metric, in your multidimensional resource plan. The pie charts summarize how these resource metrics are allocated for the selected plan. For example, the pie chart can show the total amount of CPU (ncpus) allocated for this plan, the breakdown by percentage of the total CPU allocated for each resource plan selected, and the number of free CPU available.

Underneath the pie charts are tables (labeled Summary, Owned, and Shared Pool) that show more details for the selected consumer:
    Summary
This view shows a summary of the resources allocated:
    • Allocated resources, which is the number of resources allocated, based on what the consumer owns and what they are allocated from the share policy.
    • Deserved resources, which is the number of resources that the consumer deserves, based on the demand, calculated as follows:
      • If the demand is less than or equal to the guaranteed number of resources, the deserved amount is what is demanded.
      • If the demand is greater than the guaranteed amount, then the deserved amount is the guaranteed amount.
    • Demanded resources (that is, the number of resources requested by the consumer).
    Owned
This view shows the resources allocated for the multidimensional resource ownership policy. It shows the total, allocated, lent out, and free resources for the consumer for the selected plan.
    Share Pool
This view shows the resources allocated for the multidimensional resource share policy. It shows the total and allocated resources for the consumer for the selected plan. It also shows the quota of resources that the consumer deserves when in full workload mode in the share pool. The quota value comes from the plan policy configuration.
The horizontal bar contains colors, with the following meaning:
    • Green indicates the amount of resources allocated.
    • White indicates the amount of resources not used (note that resources that are not used by this consumer in the share pool used may not necessarily be free; they may be allocated to other consumers)
    • Blue vertical line indicates the quota of resources for the consumer.
    • A dotted line indicates that the horizontal bar has been truncated the total number of resources do not fit to scale on this bar; typically, this indicates that there are a large amount of total resources.
