Creating a multidimensional resource plan

Follow these steps to create a new multidimensional resource plan.

Before you begin

  1. You must have access to consumer "/" with resource plan control permission to create a new resource plan.
  2. You must have at least one multidimensional resource group defined in the cluster. If you need to create a new multidimensional resource group, see Creating multidimensional resource groups.

Procedure

  1. From the cluster management console Dashboard, select Resources > Resource Planning (Multidimensional) > Resource Plan.
  2. Click Create to create a new plan.
    A pop-up window is displayed.
  3. Specify a resource plan name. The plan name can be any descriptive name you want to assign to your resource plan.
The name must adhere to the following rules:
    • The resource plan name must be unique.
    • The resource plan name must not use the same name as the resource group name.
    • The name can only contain alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and underscores (_).
    • The resource plan name can be a maximum of 64 characters.
  4. Select the multidimensional resource groups that you want to associate with this plan. Only resource groups that are configured as multidimensional resource groups are shown in the list.
Note: You can modify which resource group is associated with this resource plan under the Properties tab on the Multidimensional Resource Plan page if you are a cluster administrator or have root consumer permission. If you do not have one of these permissions, you cannot apply or revert changes to a resource group specification once the resource plan is created..
  5. Specify up to four different resource metrics that you want to schedule for this plan. When specifying resource metrics, consider the requirements of the applications that will run under the plan and which types of resources are best suited for those applications. If you want to add custom metrics to the plan, see Configuring custom resource metrics.
  6. Click Create.
A configuration file named MDPlan.xml is created at $EGO_CONFDIR.

What to do next

Add consumers to the resource plan; see Adding consumers to a multidimensional resource plan.
