Platform Application Center is now IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center

IBM Platform Computing has been renamed IBM Spectrum Computing – complementing IBM’s Spectrum Storage family of software-defined offerings. The IBM Platform Application Center product is now IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center. Some content in the documentation and IBM Knowledge Center does not yet reflect this new product name.

New mobile and desktop clients

Version 10.1 introduces new clients for job submission and monitoring.

IBM Spectrum LSF mobile client provides job monitoring and control, and job status notifications on your cell phone. IBM Spectrum LSF mobile client is a free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and can be used with Platform Application Center 9.1.1 and higher.

IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client provides job submission, monitoring and control, automatic data transfer of output files from the server, job status notifications, and opening files with remote applications. In addition, this client includes an LSF client to run LSF commands. To use IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client, you install it on your desktop.

  • IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client: Windows 7, Windows 8

Create flows from web Flow Editor

You can now create flows from IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center when integrated with IBM Spectrum LSF Process Manager.

Design, test, submit, monitor, and control flows from the web portal. Save draft flows to be committed later, and create flows that include application submission forms to connect several applications together. Access Flow Editor from the Resources tab, Flow Definitions, by selecting New > Flow Definition.

Get job status notifications on your desktop or on your cell phone

By default, job status notifications are enabled and users can set to be notified when their jobs start, fail, or complete.

Users can receive notifications in IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client or on their cell phone with IBM Spectrum LSF mobile client.

Users can set default notification settings for jobs in System & Settings > Settings > Notification Settings in the web portal.

When notifications are enabled, all submission forms automatically have a Notifications section, in which users can set specific notification types for each job that is submitted.

You can also set a notification for a job through the command line, with the new command regnotify. Use regnotify to register notifications for jobs that are not submitted through IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center.

The new parameter ENABLE_JOB_NOTIFICATION in $GUI_CONFDIR/pmc.conf enables or disables notifications. The new notification service PNC is controlled with the command pmcadmin start and pmcadmin stop. Set the notifications port in the configuration file $GUI_CONFDIR/jvm.pnc.options.

User session tracking in all clients

The pages System & Settings > Logged In Users and System & Settings > Usage Statistics have been updated to track IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center web portal sessions, IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client sessions, IBM Spectrum LSF mobile client sessions, and Web Services sessions.

The IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center administrator can configure how many desktop and mobile sessions are allowed, and can also end sessions.

Edit application input and output files with remote applications from IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center

When you configure remote applications to start from within IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center, users can edit input files, generate input files, submit a job with the input files, modify the input files while jobs are running, and test from a single location. In addition, users can select to automatically download output files to their desktop after jobs complete withIBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client.

You can configure IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center so that your users can start remote Linux or Windows applications from within IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center.

When you configure applications that can be started remotely, users have access to the applications from the IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center web portal and IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client.
  • In IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center web portal, users can access remote applications from:
    • The Data section of submission forms and can select the application from the Open menu to open input files for processing data before a job is submitted.
    • The Job Details page, in the Open with application menu.
    • The Jobs tab, Data page, in the Open with application menu.
  • In IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center Desktop Client, users can access remote applications from:
    • The Applications tab
    • Submission Forms tab, within a submission form, users can open input files with the remote application
    • By selecting an input file on the desktop, right-clicking and selecting Open with application

Enhanced Job Details page

View job dependencies graphically in the Job Details

In the Job Details page, you can now view job dependencies graphically when jobs are submitted with bsub -w. You can view child and parent jobs and also the dependency conditions.

Enhanced job status information

The Job Details page now includes a graphical progress bar that highlights key information for jobs such as job submission time, estimated start time, and estimated end time.

Docking and undocking of the Job Details page

The Job Details page can now be undocked to view the list of jobs and job details separately.

Online help now uses IBM Knowledge Center

The online help for IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center now uses IBM Knowledge Center on ibm.com for the most up-to-date documentation.

If your site does not have Internet access, configure the online help to point to a local version of IBM Knowledge Center that is installed with the product. You set the parameter HELP_URL_PREFIX=/help in $GUI_CONFDIR/pmc.conf. The local IBM Knowledge Center provides offline documentation for IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center, IBM Spectrum LSF, IBM Spectrum LSF Process Manager, and IBM Spectrum LSF RTM.
