InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog

IBM® InfoSphere® Information Governance Catalog is a web-based tool that provides capabilities to help you integrate, understand, and govern your information.

InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog provides a collaborative authoring environment that helps members of an enterprise create a central catalog of enterprise-specific terminology, including relationships to assets. Such a catalog is designed to help users understand business language and the business meaning of information assets such as databases, jobs, database tables and columns, and business intelligence reports.

IBM Glossary Anywhere, its companion product, augments InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog by improving productivity, increasing collaboration, and assigning ownership of business data to data stewards.

From within InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog, designated users can define terms, categories, information governance policies, and information governance rules. Users can gain insight into common business terminology, descriptions of data, ownership of terms and metadata, and how terms relate to information assets. Lineage can be filtered to remove unneeded information from the report. In addition, users can run a lineage report of an asset to indicate where information came from and how that information changed as it moved through data integration processes.

Commonly-used assets can be grouped into collections. Selected database tables, data files, data file folders, and Amazon S3 buckets can be copied from the catalog to a target distributed file system, such as a Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), by running IBM InfoSphere Data Click activities.
