Location of the istool command line
The istool command line is available on the client and engine tiers.
On Windows computers, you can open the istool command prompt in console mode from installation_directory\Clients\istools\cli, where installation_directory is the directory where you installed InfoSphere® Information Server. For example, c:\IBM\InformationServer.

- The istool_workspace\.metadata\.log file. File location:
- On Windows computers, the log file is located in the %USERPROFILE%\istool_workspace\.metadata\.log directory.
- On UNIX or Linux computers, the log file is located in the user_home/user_name/istool_workspace/.metadata/.log directory.
- The workbench_cli.log file. File location:
- On Windows computers, the file is located in the %USERPROFILE%\istool_workspace\.metadata\.log directory.
- On UNIX or Linux computers, the file is located in the user_home/user_name/istool_workspace/.metadata/.log directory.
- Errors related to InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog are written to the igc.log file. The location of the file depends on whether you use WebSphere® Application Server or WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile. For detailed location, see Log files for.
The istool framework is installed on all client and engine tier computers.
Command options for most products and areas are installed with the framework when the suite is installed.
InfoSphere Streams commands are installed on the client tier only.
- Commands for events are installed when the Data Quality Exception Console is installed – client and engine
- InfoSphere Information Analyzer – client and engine
- InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog – client and engine
- InfoSphere FastTrack – client only
This means, for example, that to move InfoSphere DataStage® and QualityStage® assets, you can run the build package, deploy package, and send package commands, and the -datastage parameter from any computer on the client or engine tier. To move InfoSphere FastTrack assets, you must run the istool command line from the client computer where InfoSphere FastTrack is installed.
