IBM InfoSphere FastTrack

IBM® InfoSphere® FastTrack automates multiple data integration tasks from analysis to code generation, while incorporating the business perspective and maintaining lineage and documented requirements. InfoSphere FastTrack accelerates the design time to create source-to-target mappings and to automatically generate jobs. Mappings and jobs are then integrated into the metadata repository for IBM InfoSphere Information Server.

Overview

Getting started
After installing InfoSphere FastTrack, you start the client and configure your system. You can also manage views and customize your environment.

Administering
You can manage data source access, users and their access to InfoSphere FastTrack, and manage access to product modules and components that are used with InfoSphere FastTrack. You can also manage projects and change your server password.

Importing metadata into the metadata repository
You import metadata when you want to add metadata into the metadata repository for use in projects. Imported metadata is viewable by all suite users and can be used by all suite components.

Updating metadata or deleting metadata from the metadata repository
You add, update or change the metadata in the metadata repository by performing an import. Then you can associate the metadata to a project and use the metadata to map source and target columns in a project. You can also delete metadata from the metadata repository.

Associating metadata to projects in InfoSphere FastTrack
When you associate metadata in the IBM InfoSphere FastTrack metadata repository to a project, the metadata becomes a data source for the project. You then use the data source to create source-to-target mappings.

InfoSphere FastTrack assets
You can use the -fasttrack option of the istool command in a command-line interface to move InfoSphere FastTrack projects and related assets across different installations of InfoSphere Information Server.

Creating mapping specifications
You create mapping specifications that consists of source-to-target mappings. You can use any existing, shared metadata column or any term from the business glossary as sources or targets. You can also create candidate columns and terms within specifications.

Generating jobs from mapping specifications
You can generate jobs as a step towards creating applications that are passed to a developer in IBM InfoSphere DataStage®, or as a way to export a specification. You can further modify these generated jobs in the IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage® Designer.

Reports
You can create reports that you can distribute to authorized users. You can specify parameters within report templates so that you can obtain specific mapping specification information tailored to your requirements.

Tracking changes for auditing
You can track and record any changes you make in InfoSphere FastTrack for auditing purposes.

Setting or checking status
You can indicate the status of mapping specifications and specific source-to-target mappings by using the mapping editor. You can monitor recent activities of a mapping specification.
