Link modules, linksets, and linkset pairings

Link modules store information about standard Rational® DOORS® links. Within each link module, the information is subdivided into linksets. Each linkset contains information about the links from one particular module to another. External links are not stored in link modules.

You can control where links are created by specifying the link module to use. There are varying levels of control available for creating links:
  • Select the link module that you want to use when you create a link.
  • Set the link module where links are created when users do not have a default link module set. This is called a default linkset pairing. Default linkset pairings are created in formal modules and control outgoing links.
  • Set the link module that is used for links to a particular module, regardless of whether the user has a default link module set. This is called a mandatory linkset pairing. Mandatory linkset pairings are created in formal modules and control outgoing links.

If you only want to allow links to be made to certain modules, in the source module create a linkset pairing for each module you want to allow links to, and then prevent links being made to any other modules.
