Configuring the frequency of feeds on the server

You can configure the server to reduce the frequency of feed polling from IBM® Engineering Workflow Management clients that are connected to the server and that support this feature.

About this task

You can configure the throttle properties of the feeds by accessing the Server Administration page of Jazz® Team Server or an application that is registered with the server.
Note: You must configure the feed settings for each application separately.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Administration page of Jazz Team Server or an application that is registered with the server.
    • For Jazz Team Server:
      1. Open a web browser and go to https://host.example.com:9443/jts/admin.
      2. On the Server Administration page, click the Server tab.
    • For an application that is registered with the server:
      1. Open a web browser and go to https://host.example.com:9443/application/admin to access the application, where application is one of the following values:
        • ccm for Change and Configuration Management
        • dcc for Data Collection Component
        • gc for Global Configuration Management
        • qm for Quality Management
        • relm for IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Engineering Insights
        • rm for Requirements Management
      2. On the Server Administration page, click the Server tab.
  2. In the Configuration pane, click Feed Settings.
  3. Click Edit to change any of the properties described in Table 1.
    Table 1. Throttle properties
    Property Default value Description
Enable Feed Throttle Management false Set to true to reduce the frequency of feed polling from Engineering Workflow Management clients that are connected to the server and that support this feature.
Minimum "Build Events" Update Interval 180 seconds The minimum number of seconds that a Engineering Workflow Management client can configure for the update interval of a "Build Events" feed.
Minimum "Query Feed" Update Interval 600 seconds The minimum number of seconds that a Engineering Workflow Management client can configure for the update interval of a "Query Feed" feed.
Minimum "Team Events" Update Interval 600 seconds The minimum number of seconds that a Engineering Workflow Management client can configure for the update interval of a "Team Events" feed.
Minimum "Work Item Events" Update Interval 600 seconds The minimum number of seconds that a Engineering Workflow Management client can configure for the update interval of a Work Item Events feed.
Minimum "Other" Update Interval 600 seconds The minimum number of seconds that a Engineering Workflow Management client can configure for the update interval of a feed that is not a "Build Events", "Query Feed", "Team Events", or "Work Item Events" feed.
Threshold for No Update 2 The number of consecutive updates that a Engineering Workflow Management client can poll for a feed with no new updates before the feed is throttled.
Threshold for No Use 5 The number of consecutive updates that a Engineering Workflow Management client can poll for an unused feed before the feed is throttled.
Throttle Rate for No Updates 5 The rate at which the feed update interval is throttled after it passes its threshold for no new updates.
Throttle Rate for No Use 5 The rate at which the feed update interval is throttled after it passes its threshold for being unused.
News Focused Is Valid Read Type true If set to true, focusing on a news item in a feed view marks the item's feed as used. This includes selecting the news item in a news section and opening the feed to view its news. This only applies to the Engineering Workflow Management client.
News Marked Read Is Valid Read Type true If set to true, marking an unread news item as read marks the feed as used. This includes marking the news item read in a news section, marking the news item read in a feed window, or opening the work item without using the feed.
View Focused Is Valid Read Type true If set to true, focusing on a view that contains the feed marks the feed as used. This includes clicking any news item in a news section that includes the feed and opening the feed to view its news.
  4. Click Save.
    Note:
    • Clicking pop-up notifications does not generally mark the feed as used, but can mark an unread news item as read.
    • Engineering Workflow Management clients that support this feature can configure a feed to override the server's throttle settings. If you override the server configuration, the feed is not throttled. To override the server setting from the Engineering Workflow Management client, in the Team Artifacts view, right-click a feed and click Properties. Select the check box next to Override server configuration.
