If you know a work item ID, you can easily retrieve the
work item. The work item ID is a number that is assigned in the sequence
in which the work item is created. You can also search by text string.
Procedure
- To retrieve a specific work item, enter the work item ID
in the Quick Search field of the main menu
bar.
The work item opens in the work item editor.
Note: You
can also access the quick search field from the Welcome
to Work Items page.
- Optional: To specify the scope of the search,
click the icon next to the Quick Search field
and select a parameter, for example, All Unresolved Work
Items.
- You can also enter text in the Quick Search field.
Text string searches search on the ID, summary, and owner name
fields. Some attributes, such as Timestamp, do not have searchable
text strings.
If only one work item contains the
matching text, that work item opens in the work item editor. Otherwise,
the matching work items are displayed in a list beneath the field.
Select a work item to open it.
Tip: When you enter a number
in the Quick Search field, the number is searched
for as a work item ID. To search for a number in a work item, enclose
the number in quotation marks ().
