Can I change the owner of a contact source?

You can change the owner of a contact source. Contact sources are databases, contact lists, queries, test lists, seed lists, and suppression lists.

About this task

You must be the owner of the contact source to move it. Select Move to user to move your Private folder contact source to another user's Private folder (see Figures A, B, and C below).

Note: Once complete, you cannot retrieve the contact source back because you would no longer be the owner.

Procedure

  1. In Data, go to View Data or Manage.
  2. Select the check box next to name(s) of contact source(s) (in this case, Database Name) that you'd like to assign to a different user, then select Move to User.
  3. In the new pop-up window that appears, select the user name that you'd like to give ownership of the contact source(s) to, then click OK.

Results

The username you selected is now the new owner of the contact source. It will be located in the user's Private folder.

In addition, a contact source that has been moved to a hared folder can be edited/updated by any Org Admin regardless of owner. To accomplish this, the owner must log in and change visibility from Private to Shared by moving the contact source to the Shared folder.

Follow the above Step 1, and for Step 2 select Move to > Move to Folder to move to desired shared folder.

Note: You cannot move a contact source from a shared folder to a private folder. This is because a list can have dependencies such as email templates and queries that are owned by a private user.
