Upgrading by migrating WebSphere Application Server information to WebSphere Application Server v8.5.5 (Scenario 2)

The following checklist is a high-level road map of tasks you need to complete to migrate configuration information from your existing WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment v7.x installation to a new installation of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5.

Before you begin, ensure you have reviewed the following information:

This information provides a high-level overview or road map of tasks you need to complete in order to upgrade to IBM® Control Desk version 7.6 by migrating the configuration of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7.x used with IBM Control Desk version 7.5.x to WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5.

In this scenario, you use the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 migration wizard to transfer existing IBM Control Desk version 7.5.x configuration information from WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7.x to WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5.

This scenario applies to deployments that use WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment hosted on Linux systems only.

The benefit of using this upgrade scenario is that you do not have to configure WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5. You reuse the configuration you performed for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7.x.

Checklist for migrating WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment configuration data

Use this checklist as a guideline when you upgrade to version 7.6 by migrating WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment configuration data.

In this scenario, you use the Control Desk version 7.6 installation program to install WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 and migrate configuration information. You intend to migrate existing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v7.x profile information created for Control Desk version 7.5 to WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5.

Review the information about establishing supported middleware in Establish supported middleware.

Complete the following tasks to establish supported middleware:
  • If necessary, upgrade your database software to a supported version using the installation program for that software. Before upgrading your database software, check the Product Configuration Matrix to determine whether the software is supported by this release. The Product Configuration Matrix is available here.

  • If necessary, upgrade your directory server software to a supported version using the installation program for that software. Refer to the documentation provided with your product for upgrade information.

  • Use the installation program to install WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 as described in Installing WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 using the Control Desk version 7.6 installation program.

  • After installation is complete, use the Control Desk version 7.6 configuration program to prepare WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment v8.5.5 for Control Desk

Run the Control Desk version 7.6 installation program to install Control Desk on the administrative workstation

To perform the upgrade, complete the steps described in Running the Control Desk 7.6 installation program.
checkbox empty 7 Migrate customizations from your prior deployment. Migrate any customizations you made in your Control Desk version 7.6 administrative workstation. Migration must be performed for all products that are installed on the workstation.

Run the Control Desk version 7.6 configuration program. Changes are written to the database and if you chose to do so, application EAR files were deployed to WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.
